Kia EV3 Wins 2025 World Car of the Year, Hyundai Inster Crowned World EV of the Year

With the EV3 clinching the title of 2025 World Car of the Year, Kia has now racked up an impressive six World Car Awards over the 21-year history of the program.

The 2025 World Car Awards wrapped up in style at the New York International Auto Show, where winners across six global categories were revealed in a live ceremony. This marked the finale of “The Road to World Car 2025,” a worldwide journey that kicked off on September 30, 2024. Taking top honors, the Kia EV3 was officially crowned the 2025 World Car of the Year.

A jury of 96 experienced automotive journalists from 30 countries, with votes independently tabulated by KPMG, determined the winners. From an initial list of 52 eligible vehicles, the competition was narrowed down to three finalists: the BMW X3, Hyundai Inster/Casper Electric, and the Kia EV3. To qualify, each vehicle had to be available for sale in at least two major markets across two continents.

To be eligible, vehicles had to be priced below luxury levels and produced in volumes of over 10,000 units annually between January 1, 2024, and March 30, 2025. The EV3’s win marks Kia’s second consecutive and third overall World Car of the Year title—following the EV9’s triumph in 2024 and the Telluride’s win back in 2020. This latest accolade further cements Kia’s reputation for crafting globally competitive and highly acclaimed vehicles.

With the EV3's latest win, Kia now boasts a total of six World Car Awards over the 21-year history of the program. Among the other big winners this year, the Volvo EX90 was named the 2025 World Luxury Car, while the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS took home the 2025 World Performance Car title. Hyundai’s Inster/Casper Electric secured the World Electric Vehicle award, and BYD’s Seagull/Dolphin Mini was crowned the 2025 World Urban Car.

Volkswagen closed out the list of winners by clinching the World Car Design of the Year for the ID. Buzz. This year’s finalists across all categories also included standout models such as the Audi A5/S5, Ford Mustang, Mini Cooper Electric, Suzuki Swift, Toyota Camry, Land Cruiser 250, and the Volkswagen Tiguan/Tayron.

The Hyundai Inster, a compact electric SUV, features a fast-charging system that can juice the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes. Its 49 kWh battery pack delivers an impressive driving range of up to 370 km. Looking ahead, Hyundai is expected to introduce a small electric crossover in India, likely drawing design and tech cues from the Inster, as part of its expanding EV portfolio for the market.
